About Us

Origin

The Loyola Industrial Training Institute ( henceforth referred to as LITI )  was started in the name of  Loyola  Technical Institute  in 1952  for the technical training  State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) for the children of textile mill workers who had migrated to Madurai from villages around it. It was a time of great urban migration as agricultural activities dwindled with successive years of lean monsoon. In fact the Institute is located at a distance of 2 kms from the largest and the oldest textile mill in Madurai.Since 1982, the Loyola Technical Institute has been approved to offer National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) Certificate courses in all five trades.

Objectives :

To impart formal Technical and Commercial knowledge and Practical Training to any qualified person irrespective of Caste or Creed, with greater importance and preference to Rural Dalit youth, Tribals and women.

To conduct a hostel for the poor boys who undergo training in the Institute and to meet their tuition and boarding expenses from the earnings of the Institute.

To provide non-formal technical education for girls & boys.

Institute Profile

  • Currently two years & one year training is offered for five different trades: Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Wireman & Welder.
  • The training in these trades are formally recognized by the government Directorate of Employment and Training, New Delhi. All four Trades are accredited by Quality Council of India (QCI)
  • Since 1982, the Loyola Technical Institute is approved to offer NCVT Certificate courses in all the four trades.
  • The academic year started on Ist week of August.  All the trades are filled up with 20 each and 24 in MMV  Of the total admission 30% were allotted to Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes ( Dalits)  to the socially and economically deprived youth between the ages of 14 to 25 years.
  • LITI caters, by a discerned policy decision of the management and staff to poor rural dalit students
  • Selection process is not merely by merit but also by the economic and social deprivation status / grade of applicant.  It is done through an admission committee.
  • After selection or admission, the candidates are interviewed along with the parents to knowing their aptitudes and admission is given.
  • During the training whether formal or non-formal, parents are informed of their ward’s progress in monthly tests.
  • In-plant training and hands on experience are given in factories or workshops and is assessed for candidates by the staff of the factories / workshops.
  • Follow up of the trained candidates is carried out the institute and with the help of  Alumni Association.
  • Placement Cell and Class Teachers of each trade monitor their performance and placement. More than 15 Companies used to condact in Campus Interview.
  • Inter I.T.I. Sports   & Cultural Competitions are conducted every year.
